Francis Ford Coppola directed this gangster genre film in 1972. It based on novel ‘The Godfather’ written by Mario Puzo. Coppola directing techniques are quite impressive in this movie. Lighting concepts, the usages of light, dark and shadow and fascinating scenes will lead you from the very first minutes of movies until the last ones. We can see the soundtrack of Godfather Waltz is famous and well known.
The storyline line is about a powerful mafia boss of New York, Don Vito Corleone (starred by Marlon Brando) and his youngest son Michael Corleone (starred by Al Pacino) who want to live in normal lifestyle. Although Michael wanted to live legitimately, he slowly involved in the family business while his father has been tried to assassinate by gangsters from rival family. Michael decided to take action to protect the family. He also assassinated Sollozzo who tried to kill his father and the police captain who was corrupted. When Don Corleone recovered from injury, Michael was powerful and overwhelmed in the family. Later that, his brother Sonny died in an ambush by rivals and his father Vito was died of heart attack Michael became in charge in the family. Michael ordering to kill rival mobsters to grow his family’s dominance. He became the new Don as he loses his innocence.
Coppola wanted to present us the power of gangster families, problems between families, loyal and betrayal. We can observe the 1940 lifestyles of America, the bribery and corruption of police. This film won 3 Oscar Awards in 1973 including Best Picture, Best Actor in leading role by Marlon Brandon and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material from different medium by Mario Puzo and Francis Ford Coppola.
This film become a classic film since 1973 until now. Audience accept this film as the pioneer of Gangster Genre Film for many decades. Popular video game developers such as Electronic Arts, Page 44 Studios and Visceral Games adapted and developed this game in 2006 and many sequels in later. People who love classic films should watch this film.
