Cruella; The Marvellous Villian
The Devil
“I am a woman... hear me roar. And I am just getting started. (chuckles) And don't you forget, darling, I'm a little bit mad.”
Ambition and creativity, The complexity of good and evil, Identity, Resilience and Determination, and Acceptance and Forgiveness – all of them are depicted in a single movie, and fashion was part of that.
A grabbed girl, named Estella, who once worked as a cleaner in a fashion house – little did they know, she had a touch of madness. She just wanted to be a fashion designer and of course find the one who killed her mother. Good or bad, she was drunk, and made a mess the entire store turning the mannequin into something - a vibrant and avant-garde display of fashion-forward artistry. What a creative girl!
Yeah, she was fired, but don't worry she was taken on by the manipulative designer, called Baroness, in London.
To put it in a nutshell, she was going to do what she wished for, yet the story has just begun. Undoubtedly, she made the elegant sketching, perhaps more than elegant. One day, in her boss's room she noticed the necklace adorned with radiant red which was once possessed by her mother.
Baroness was going to have her party, and she came masking her eyes with black shield. Then discarding her white cape, she revealed her stunning red dress underneath. Suddenly, at the moment she tried to escape when the Baroness ordered to guard her, she knew that the killer was in front of her. Estella's gone and Cruella's come.
Beyond The Screen
The scene where Estella transforms her cape into an enthralling scarlet dress is one of the pillars of the movie. The gowns made of news-paper-like fabric, half red-and-white gown and black and white Street style fashions are what led to Oscar. At the final, the black coat had turned into a parachute.
All the costumes throughout the movies are artistically and visually creative and innovative. The looks are impressive, the character is behind the fashion, it was such a movie that cannot survive without fashion.
Disclaimer: "Cruella" was released in theatres and on Disney+ Premier Access on May 28, 2021; and directed by Craig Gillespie. In addition, Jenny Beavan, an English Costume designer, won an Oscar for Best Costume Design for this movie.
